Covid Quarantine insurance for US citizens

US Citizens who have traveled overseas are now no longer required to get tested for COVID19 before traveling back to the US. This was earlier mandatory by the US government, and this requirement is currently under abeyance based on the trajectory of the pandemic.

Despite the removal of the Covid-19 restrictions both in the US and around the globe, it is prudent for US citizens to purchase international travel insurance which will make the whole trip worry free and provide good protection for any medical or travel related expenses in case of unexpected situations.

US travelers can either buy US Covid quarantine coverage trip insurance (includes coverage for cost of the trip), or Covid quarantine travel health insurance (insures only the health of the traveler and is cheaper than trip insurance).

Mexico short term travel insurance vs long term travel insurance Mexico options

International travelers from Mexico are considered as visitors and not eligible for most domestic US plans. Unless you have an American employer willing to provide health insurance, you will most likely have to purchase visitor health insurance or a global health insurance policy.

The main difference between these two types is that the global health insurance policy is purchased for an entire year at a time (although you can pay monthly, semi-annually, etc.) and it requires an extensive application which can be either approved or rejected by the insurance company.

The global plans provide coverage for pre-existing ailments and preventive care. The visitor insurance plans on the other hand, are guaranteed coverage and can be purchased for shorter periods, less than 12 months.

The benefits of the global health policies come in the second year of the policy when they cover wellness visits and pre-existing conditions. For trips of short durations from Mexico to America, a visitor's plan will work best.

Mexican Immigrants in the USA and medical insurance as new immigrants

Migration to the US from Mexico has its origins in the early 19th century when some of the Tejanos settled in Texas during the Spanish Colonial Period. The United States did not have any census separately categorising immigrants as Mexicans till well into the 20th century.

The first conflict between the Mexico and the US was in the 1830s when the westward settlements of United States and of slavery got many new immigrants into the region known as Tejas which was then part of Mexico. During this period many Mexicans moved to California which was a Spanish colony. In 1833 the Mexican government secularized its missions and this became one of the most important events in the history of Mexican immigrants in California.

Many battles like Mexican–American War, followed by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase in 1853 made a wide are once held by Mexico under the control of the US.

There were 500,000 Hispanics of Mexican descent living in the USA around 1900. During the late 19th Century as a result of the economic modernization program by the then Mexican President Porfirio Diaz, there was significant Mexican emigration to the United States. A railway network was built which connected central Mexico to the U.S. border.

During the early 20th century, the main period of immigration to the US was during the Great Migration that took place between the 1910s to the 1920s. During this time Mexico was facing a revolution where many civilians were forced to seek out economic and political security in the U S who found agricultural work and jobs under contract as private laborers. 1.3 million Mexicans relocated to the United States from 1910 to 1930s, with significant surges every year.

The Bracero Era from 1942-1964 brought the 2nd increased number of migrators of 4.6 million Mexican immigrants thanks to the Bracero Program. This was started by the US to hire the agricultural labor from Mexico, as the US faced labor shortages soon after the World War II. From the late 20th century, Mexican immigrants have increasingly become a large part of the workforce in industries such as meat packing, construction, landscaping, restaurant, hotel and other service industries throughout the United States, especially in the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Nevada.

There are also noticeable increases in populations in Illinois and Oklahoma. In 2015, the United States had 157,227 Mexican immigrants which increased and in the year 2016 there were 1.3 million Mexicans on the waiting list to immigrate to the US through legal means. In 2019 there were 10.9 million Mexicans living in the US who continue to be the largest group of immigrants in the United States.

The large Mexican-American community retains strong ties with family in Mexico, resulting in a lot of travel between the two nations. The drive to immigrate to the US looking for better living and economic status is very exciting; however one should also keep in mind the difference in culture, weather conditions that can increase probabilities for unexpected medical or travel emergencies.

Healthcare in the US is expensive while being excellent is extremely expensive and visiting an US hospital without insurance is scary. It is therefore essential to have either short term travel medical insurance or longer term good immigrant medical insurance on arrival in the US, till they are eligible for domestic US insurance. This is particularly important given the current Covid19 pandemic.

A good US immigrant health insurance plan will provide coverage for medical expenses incurred in case of any injury or illness.

This travel health insurance is cheap because it has a fixed coverage limit for different medical benefits. Fixed benefit plans work well in case of small ailments but can be inadequate in the event of a serious medical ailment or hospitalisation.
Comprehensive travel medical insurance
